Award Structure

Inclusive Awards

It is recognised that an Award system was needed for individuals who require special support. The Caledonian Family of Awards are designed to stretch these young people both physically & intellectually within their own particular range of capabilities.

Flexible Approach

All individuals learn & develop at different rates. This is why a planned programme of events is designed by professionals, in conjunction with participants, parents, guardians & house officers, specially to suit each participant. This approach ensures that each person gains the maximum benefit from the Award. Continuous assessment is undertaken by leaders. The level of effort put into an activity is as important as the achievement.

The Caledonian Junior Award

The Junior Award is an Achievement and Citizenship Award for all young people from 7 –14 years (normally P4-P7/S1/2) regardless of their ability, based on the 5-14 curriculum. The

Scotia Award

The Scotia Award provides an opportunity for young people working within a support base to participate in an Citizenship Programme, leading to an Achievement Award which will help them reach their maximum potential while increasing their independence & links with their community.

The Caledonian Standard/Advanced/Senior Awards

These Awards provide an opportunity for young people & adults with learning disabilities to participate in an Independence Programme, leading to an Achievement Award, which will enrich their lives, help them reach their maximum potential & increase their links with their own community.
